It is difficult dealing with nature when you want it to perform 'on cue'.
For an amateur horticulturalist, coping with the sun (too much / too little); wind, pests, lack of germination: differing maturation rates: frequent watering requirements: application of soil wetting agents and soluble fertiliser, I am reasonably happy that at least some of the sun-flowers are in full bloom.
I wanted to make a piece that was not too far removed from my other work, so I chose objects that appear in my paintings - hence the table cloth. Here the table becomes an alter on which to place the purple-potted sun flowers - purple chosen as the complimentary of yellow.
Around the cloth I have constructed my Hymn to the Sun - phrases taken directly from the The Oxford Book of Quotations and The Oxford Book of Modern Quotations.
